The 12V SAE connection is the primary power and works flawlessly. For days when I want to use the system off the bike — at a rest stop, a campsite, or away from the bike — I bought the 7.4V battery separately. Worth the extra purchase to have that flexibility. The vest and cooler system themselves are excellent.

At highway speed this system is outstanding — the cold water circulation combined with airflow over your jacket is genuinely comfortable in heat that would otherwise be brutal. At slow speeds or in stop-and-go traffic the circulation still works but you lose the airflow benefit. For highway touring this is a five-star product. For city riding in heat it's still good, just not transformative.

The temperature range of 36 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit circulating against your torso while air flows over your jacket at 70 mph is genuinely refreshing in a way that nothing else on a motorcycle can replicate. I have ridden all summer with this system and have not cut a single ride short due to heat. That's the whole return on investment right there.

I do iron butt rides and summer heat has always been the limiting factor. The 6L cooler on this system connected to my SAE adapter keeps cold water circulating for the full 6 hours. I did a 400-mile July run without stopping specifically for heat. First time I've ever said that. This system has expanded what I'm willing to attempt in summer.

If your bike already has an SAE adapter this system plugs in and runs in under 5 minutes. My touring bike was wired for it and the whole setup took less time than filling the cooler. Once it's running the cold water circulates continuously and you feel it immediately through the vest. Exactly the plug-and-ride system touring riders need.
